“What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.” -Aristotle
This topic is a huge in itself and can be seen as a whole life time of compassion for others or even though thousands of life times. This is maybe the most important act we can do in our life. It can be seen as a practical mean of self-transformation. As the enlighten Master Sri Sathya Sai Baba says: “Spiritual exercises like Japa (repetition of God’s name), Dhyana, (meditation), Yagna (worship), reading scriptures and undertaking pilgrimages are not equal to the performance of selfless service. It is not right to seek liberation for oneself alone. One should make an effort to get liberation for others too. That is true service.” (Divine Discourses of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, November 19-24, 1987, Chapter: Adwaitha Through Seva)
We should look about for any chance to help, listen, relieve suffering, rescue anyone in need and resuscitate any one in need. Our duty is to train ourselves so that we render help quickly & well. Service or seva is the most paying form of austerity and the most pleasurable and satisfying deed we can do on this planet of ours. It springs out of love and compassion for all.
